Welcome to Mrs. Elie's Class 2016-2017

Moody Elementary started the first week of school with students in Grade level groups learning about the Zones of Regulation.  Students also learned about expectations for hallways and walking through the school.  If you would like an introduction to the Zones of Regulation, you can watch this video here:

It is hard to believe we are in the second week as a class.  We have been participating in a variety of activities to help us get to know each other.  In addition we started our Lucky Stars Scratch n Win not only to encourage Green Zone behaviours but also to learn about probability.  There are 500 tickets to be won this Term.  440 out of 500 tickets are prize winners.  So how many tickets are not winning tickets?  Students recognize that there is only 1 chance to win a pizza party for the class but there are 50 tickets which will let you choose a prize from the prize bin.  So far we are having quite a bit of fun with this.

This term we hope to participate in the 2016 Global Read Aloud by reading the book PAX.  In addition, SD43 has a wonderful opportunity for students to participate in the SSEP which involves a science contest to send an experiment to the international space station.  Finally, Mrs. Elie is an ambassador for the Kids Guide to Canada initiative where students will be sharing their ideas about where we live with other students across the country.  Watch for details about all of these on our Science, Social Studies and PAX pages on this blog.

Finally, we will be using Freshgrade to create digital portfolios of our learning for the year.  This is a district-wide initiative so we are waiting for our student accounts to be set up so students can communicate their learning to their parents on an ongoing basis.  There are a few technical glitches to be resolved but stay tuned!

Looking forward to a great Year!
