Pax Global Read Aloud 2016

Pax

We will be participating in the Global Read Aloud and reading the book Pax at the same time as thousands of other students around the globe.  Although it is usually a challenge, here is our reading schedule:
Week 1 - October : 1 – 5
Week 2 - October 10-14 6 – 10 Week 3- October 17-21:  11 – 16
Week 4 October 24-28: 17 – 23
Week 5- October 31 - November 4: 24-27
Week 6 - November 7-November 10: 28 – end

Throughout the Global Read Aloud we will be connecting with students in different countries and cities.  As suggested by the BC's new curriculum: "Exploring stories and other texts helps us understand ourselves and make connections to others and to the world."

We will use a variety of comprehension strategies (including: activating prior knowledge, making predictions, making connections, asking questions, making inferences and drawing conclusions), before, during and after listening to guide inquiry and deepen our understanding of the text.

We will apply thinking skills like summarizing and explaining connections in order to gain meaning from the novel.

We will use personal experience and knowledge to connect to the story and develop understanding of self, community and the world.

We will exchange ideas and perspectives with students in our class and throughout the globe in order to build shared understanding.

We will communicate in writing using paragraphs and applying conventions of Canadian spelling, grammar and punctuation.
